The 61st Annual Grammy Awards took place on Sunday, February 10 at the STAPLES Center in Los Angeles. The yearly “In Memoriam” segment, celebrating musicians and notable music industry individuals who have died, included figures such as Aretha Franklin, Mac Miller, and Avicii. Notable exclusions from this year’s televised segment included XXXTentacion, Buzzcocks’ Pete Shelley, Frightened Rabbit’s Scott Hutchison, Pegi Young, Richard Swift, and Anticon co-founder Alias.
XXXTentacion, Shelley, Hutchison, Young, Swift, Alias, and many others are on a longer list of artists that the Recording Academy posted Sunday. This year’s list also includes the Fall’s Mark E. Smith, who was omitted last year, as well as Dolores O’Riordan and Hugh Masekela, who were both honored during last year’s ceremony.
