Well, one Texas woman has a lot to be grateful for, after all of her family, friends, and colleagues gathered around her to celebrate a very special birthday.

The year Elizabeth Francis was born, the Oval Office was constructed, the NAACP was created, Cadillac entered General Motors and the average life expectancy for an American woman was 54 years old. Francis was raised in 1909 in Louisiana. On Saturday, the Houstonian celebrated her 110th birthday.

Francis starts emotionally speaking about the room complete of relatives and colleagues who gathered to honor her and her longevity. She claims she can have this life because of her strong faith in God.

“Blessing of the Lord. He’s the one keeping me. That’s why I’m living,” said Francis.

Francis is still sharp, has her memory, and is comparatively safe for a female who has seen six generations of transition.

“It’s really special because she’s been able to watch and see all of her grandchildren grow up and be a part of their lives,” said Ethel Harrison, Francis’ granddaughter.

Her family is thankful for her wisdom, for the tales she tells, and for her smile. It wasn’t just a family honoring her, Houston Mayor Sylvester Turner also paid a visit to Francis. She claims it was the perfect way to start the next century plus ten.
