Green Day Take Aim at Trump With Some New ‘American Idiot’ Lyrics at 2019 iHeartRadio Music Festival

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

You might not be surprised to learn that Green Day aren’t big fans of President Trump, but on Friday night (Sept. 20) at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas, they made their distaste crystal-clear with some updated “American Idiot” lyrics.

The rock band kicked off day 1 of the festival with their 2004 hit that took direct aim at the George W. Bush presidency. This time around, they replaced the “American Idiot” lyric “I’m not a part of a redneck agenda” with “I’m not a part of a MAGA agenda,” calling out Trump’s favorite red-hat motto “Make America Great Again.”

In a recent interview with Kerrang!, Green Day frontman Billie Joe Armstrong said there are definitely political themes on the band’s 13th album, Father of All Motherfuckers, which is due Feb. 7, 2020, but they’re avoiding direct Trump songs. “I mean, I draw no inspiration from the President of the United States, because he’s just… there’s nothing,” he said. “Trump gives me diarrhea, you know? I don’t want to write a song about it!”

Green Day rounded out their iHeartRadio set with “Holiday,” “Basket Case,” “Boulevard of Broken Dreams” and their latest single, “Father of All…,” which is already a top 10 hit on Billboard‘s Hot Rock Songs chart. The band is setting out on the Hella Mega Tour starting in March 2020 alongside Weezer and Fall Out Boy. “It’s the biggest rock event that’s going to happen for over a year,” Armstrong said in Billboard‘s recent cover story about the three-headed tour.

The iHeartRadio Music Festival continues day 1 with performances from Camila Cabello, Halsey, Steve Aoki with Monsta X and more. Find out how to watch live here.
