Long live A$AP.
Yams, whose real name is Steven Rodriguez, founded the A$AP Mob collective, which also includes A$AP Ferg, A$AP Bari and more. He died of an accidental drug overdose on Jan. 18, 2015. He was 26 years old.
The chain is incredibly lifelike, featuring Yams with a colorful sweater, classic braids and headband as well as his facial birthmark. The bottom is engraved with the rapper’s name, birth date (Nov. 13, 1988), death date and his hometown of Harlem, NY. The piece is timed nearly exactly to the five-year anniversary of his death and the fourth Yams Day, an event at Barclays Center in Brooklyn organized by the crew with performances by its members and friends of the late rapper.
“This is going to sound really cheesy, man,” Rocky told Billboard shortly after Yams’ death. “But he showed me that there are people who can be born from another woman and another man but be as loyal to you as a blood brother, if not more. He had my back, man. Me and him had the same vision, and he knew how to help me reach it.”
