Jason Kennedy is departing E! after working at the network for more than 15 years, Page Six can exclusively reveal.
“I’ve had the time of my life at E!. Most recently, I loved being the host of ‘In the Room,’ but COVID made it impossible to capture interviews with celebrities in a more personal setting, so I have decided to pursue a new opportunities,” Kennedy told Page Six in a statement.
“I’m leaving with a grateful and full heart thinking about my experience, and the lifelong friendships I’ve made along the way at E!. I have a slate of exciting projects that I’ve been working on and I can’t wait to share with you soon.”
Kennedy’s departure comes after the network canceled its signature “E! News” nightly program as well as “In the Room” over the summer.
NBC, E!’s parent company, has been hit with financial woes since the start of the coronavirus pandemic that resulted in various rounds of layoffs, including the entire “In the Room” staff, Page Six exclusively reported earlier this month.
The networked also canceled the short-lived “Pop of the Morning” show over the economic havoc the pandemic has caused.
E! airs “Daily Pop” and “Nightly Pop” on linear and announced in early February that it’s set to launch Lisa Vanderpump’s new reality series, “Overserved With Lisa Vanderpump.”
Kennedy began working at E! in 2005 as a weekend anchor and reporter. He eventually became co-host of “E! News” alongside Giuliana Rancic. In December, he and Rancic launched an online video series that they host called “Own the Spotlight” that aims to help budding journalists improve their skills.
