Diane Keaton’s health ‘declined very suddenly’ in months leading up to her death

Diane Keaton faced an “unexpected” health crisis in the final months of her life.
“She declined very suddenly, which was heartbreaking for everyone who loved her,” a friend of the Oscar-winning actress told People following Keaton’s death on Saturday at age 79.
“It was so unexpected,” the friend added, “especially for someone with such strength and spirit.”
Keaton’s pal also revealed the star’s family intentionally kept her health battle private.
“In her final months, she was surrounded only by her closest family, who chose to keep things very private,” the friend shared. “Even longtime friends weren’t fully aware of what was happening.”
People also noted that Keaton listed her “dream home,” a five-bedroom, seven-bathroom property in Los Angeles, for $29 million in March, which surprised many since she allegedly said she wanted to live there permanently.
In addition, a source told the outlet that Keaton wasn’t seen outside her home for the past few months.
“She lived in Brentwood for many years. She loved her neighborhood,” the source said. “Up until just a few months ago, she’d walk her dog every day. She was usually dressed the same, with a hat and her signature sunglasses regardless of the weather.”
“She was always very nice, funny and chatty,” the insider continued. “She’d talk to her dog like he was a person. She was eccentric and had this old-school Hollywood aura. She was very, very special.”
The Post has reached out to Keaton’s rep for comment.
Keaton died Saturday in California, her family confirmed. A cause of death has not been disclosed.
The late actress rose to fame in the 1970s and was best known for starring in the films “The Godfather,” “Annie Hall,” “Baby Boom,” “First Wives Club,” and “Something’s Gotta Give.” She famously won a Best Actress Academy Award in 1977 for her role in “Annie Hall.”
Keaton shared her final Instagram post in April, which showed the “Father of the Bride” star looking happy and healthy with her dog, Reggie.
According to E! News, Keaton was last seen publicly in late 2024 during a holiday shopping trip. Before that, she was photographed running errands in Aug. 2024.
Keaton is survived by her two adopted children, daughter Dexter, 29, and son Duke, 25.
